System Operations Engineer

Position Summary

A Systems Operations Engineer will support internal users by maintaining internal corporate IT infrastructure and responding to service issues and requests under the VP of IT.

The Systems Operations Engineer will assist with production and non-production servers that support the organization’s Software as a Service (SaaS) products.  This will include configuring and maintaining all supporting network and systems infrastructure in the organization’s cloud platforms. The Systems Operations Engineer will ensure adherence to corporate support response policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and troubleshoot internal corporate IT infrastructure
  • Address internal user requests and issues related to workstation/laptop, network and software issues.
  • Add, remove, or otherwise modify user domain privileges in Active Directory
  • Monitor SolarWinds network and systems alerts and quickly respond to all reported incidents.
  • Remotely respond to critical infrastructure-related issues in an on-call capacity.
  • Manage Active Directory Organizational Group structure and User/Computer membership.
  • Provide first and second level support for systems and network escalations.
  • Monitor, quickly respond to, and resolve service tickets submitted by internal users.
  • Maintain inventory of company software and hardware.
  • Manage and troubleshoot server and workstation DNS records and lookup zones.
  • Maintain remote workstation Microsoft DirectAccess Intranet connectivity.
  • Recommend infrastructure technologies and best practices for corporate initiative planning.
  • Modify VM resource assignments in vCloud Director to best suit application requirements.
  • Troubleshoot production and non-production VM connectivity or systems resource issues.
  • Interface with client technical and business personnel to explain technical organizational details.
  • Interface with client and third-party technical personnel to troubleshoot systems interoperations.
  • Review and compare technical solutions vendors to make purchase recommendations.
  • Experience with Windows OS patching schedules and deployment procedures.
  • Create and Update procedures and processes.
  • Escalate systems and infrastructural issues to vendors and service providers as required.
  • Promptly and proactively recommend and decommission equipment that is no longer required.
  • Identify and implement best practices IT operational approaches to maximize service efficiency
  • Manage software license renewals, assignments, and compliance reporting.
  • Configure and issue workstations to internal users.
  • Assign and manage Office 365 product licenses.
  • Review Office 365 product license purchases and assignments.
  • Maintain SSL certificates and domain name registrations.
  • Develop, maintain, adhere to, and enforce corporate support policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Understanding of basic layer 2 switched networks.
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory User & Computer management.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft productivity software features and common issues.
  • Professional demeanor and consistently helpful attitude.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 user and product management.
  • Adaptable problem-solving skills and self-sufficiency to research issues independently.
  • Ability to sustain moderate physical activity and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical issues to nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to use Fiddler or other similar proxy tools to debug HTTP traffic.
  • Familiarity with Windows DirectAccess, BitLocker, & Dynamic Provisioning for workstations.

Job Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in desktop support
  • 3+ years’ experience in systems or network roles
  • Microsoft certifications recommended
  • CCNA, CCNP, or other relevant Cisco certifications recommended.
